تسول الأطفال في المجتمع الروماني في ضوء المصادر الأدبية في عصر الإمبراطورية المبكر. Child Begging in Roman Society in Light of Literary Sources in the Early Empire Era

الملخص:
التسول من الموضوعات التي ربما يكتنفها الغموض في المجتمع الروماني؛ ذلك نتيجة طبيعية؛ لتردي الأحوال الاقتصادية، وتدهور الأوضاع الاجتماعية في المجتمعات التي يسودها، ويزداد ذلك الغموض إذا تعلقت ظاهرة التسول بالأطفال؛ لأنه لم يتح لها المجال في الشرح والتفصيل بالشكل الكافي في المصادر الكلاسيكية من مؤرخين وشعراء وخطباء وغيرهم، ومعظم المعلومات التي لدينا هي إشارات مختصرة وقليلة مقارنة بالحديث عن الفقر أو التسول بشكله الكلي في الإمبراطورية الرومانية. 
هذا وقد تناولنا تعريف الْمُتَسَوِّلِ في المجتمع الروماني، كما وضحنا أنّ لتسول الأطفال في المجتمع الروماني في العصر الإمبراطوري مجموعةً من العوامل التي ساعدت على ذلك النشاط منها:- الأوضاع الاقتصادية، ومنها تشويه الأطفال المتعمد، وكذلك الأطفال المعاقون جسديًا، كما تحدثنا بشكل تفصيلي عن نظرة الكتاب للتسول بشكل عام، وتسول الأطفال بشكل خاص، والذي تضمن شفقة البعض منهم، واشمئزاز البعض الآخر، وأخيرًا دور الدولة في محاولات تحسين الأحوال المعيشية للآباء والأبناء من خلال ما قدمته من منح مالية وعينية، ثم المرسوم الذي صدر لمحاولة التصدي للمتسولين داخل روما.
Abstract:
Begging is a subject that may be shrouded in mystery in Roman society. It is a normal consequence stemming from deterioration of both economic and social conditions of the communities in which it prevails. This mystery deepens when the phenomenon of begging is associated with children, as classical sources from historians, poets, orators, and others have not adequately addressed or detailed this aspect. Most of the information available consists of brief and scarce references compared to discussions about poverty or begging in general in the Roman Empire. As we clarified, the definition of the beggar in Roman society disclosed that child begging in Roman society during the Imperial era was caused by various factors, including economic conditions, intentional disfigurement of children, and the presence of physically disabled children. We detailed the perspectives of different authors on begging in general and child begging in particular. This included some expressing compassion while others showed disdain and disgust. Finally, we discussed the role of the state in attempting to improve living conditions for both parents and children through financial and in-kind grants. We also highlighted a decree issued to address the issue of beggars within Rome.
